It’s quite possible to implement the quadrature encoding, position counting, terminal stop count reset, and a custom addressing system, even LCD control in an FPGA, and I’m sure complexities are up, and prices down from when I last played with one about 6 years ago. It will take me longer to get results than going with the reprap official stuff, but I’ll have a better hardware platform with space for real expansion, speed and if anyone else is interested, I’m thinking the package will have a lower hardware cost due to the integration on one PCB.
The second device select is then mapped to whatever device select out you set with the first. When using ICD to program only, it can be set up to automatically program after build, so you get a pretty quick build-run cycle.
I pretty much agree with all of that one If the current state of the art is as far as we go. Synchronous operation is provided by having all flipflops clocked simultaneously on the positivegoing edge of the clock CP.
Why not use any micro anyone you fancies? Andy, you have a point I looked up spartan arm cortex and got this: My last go round with a board from XESS had me going in circles for several weeks before I could get the board stable.
Use the right tool for the right job, that’s what I say.
Rather than going for restricted proprietary IP and limited distribution cores do a search on the Open Cores Project. The outputs Q0 to Q3 of the counters may be An errata sheet, describing minor operational differences fr om the data sheet and recommended workarounds, may exist for curren t devices.
Rune Reply Start a New Thread. Algorithmic boosting depends on where we are going. January 12, Surely if using something as large as a spartan you would put the processor on the FPGA using the Open Cores designs as a 1c657 your own micro-controler with IO specifically designed and tailored to the application.

I think FPGA’s are great for their flexibility, but they do have their share of thorns. It can come in a SOIC package and can be programmed in circuit. Why not use anything other than Programmable logic? Cheers aka47 Necessity hopefully becomes the absentee parent of successfully invented children.
I’m designing my board up now, early stages though. It also means that one set of hardware can have differing personalities, for example the same logic board could run servo motors with one set of add on drivers or steppers with a different set of add on drivers all with just a code change. Sure, I could do the analogue with a cheap microcontroller, but, that’s what the Arm Cortex is anyway.
All you’d need then, is a programmer to talk to that model of AVR, and I think the standard Atmel development programmer works for that, so long as you have the correct version That doesnt necessarily mean you want to discard either. As devicedocumentation issues become known to us, we will publish an errata sheet.
I’d be pleased to hear that I missed one; is there one available as open source? Cookies help us provide services. So, the design process begins On request Manufacturer Brand: We’re looking at two sets of tradeoffs. Suddenly programmable logic makes a lot of sense.
