Nov 24, Keertana rated it it was amazing Shelves: I adore the mythological aspect of these stories, and how Marillier weaves fairytale and drama together so expertly.

From the beginning itself, Cathal is a slightly shady character. Also I liked how at the beginning of the quest Clodagh is overwhelmed of what is going on, she is not a warrior and she is honest about that, she is not fearless, she is afraid and she knows that but the fact that she loves so strongly she takes risks for the ones she loves and that is much better then a heroine that has skills of a warrior but does not know to love to the fullest.

Clodagh sees herself as a boring, ordinary young woman. My books are set in the real world, not an invented secondary world—their fantasy element lies in the interaction of the human characters with the Otherworld, which takes whatever form fits the common beliefs of their time and culture.

In all honesty, I could discuss these two and their never-ending depth for ages, but I hope you will discover it yourselves. I’d unfasten her clothing and lie with her on that hard bed, and what was between us would be as far above the ordinary congress between man and woman as the stars are above their pale reflections in the lake below.

Derisive about the Fair Folk and other supernatural beings, he seems to be the last person who could help Clodagh in her quest to get her brother back. All the books are narrated in the first person by young women of the family.

I loved this story of a young woman who needs to call on all her strength to save her family and the man she loves, and never stops to think that she might not be good enough to do so. That drives me crazy. Becan, the odd baby Clodagh must take to the Otherworld in aevenwaters to retrieve her new baby brother, became one of my favorite characters.

I love those strong, silent warrior types. Maybe that’s the point, since even she claims that she’s not suited to more than managing a household, but it just still doesn’t sit right with me.

Be realistic and enjoy writing for wevenwaters own sevenwategs. After the preliminary research, I draft a couple of outlines, then a synopsis, which my publisher sees and hopefully approves.

There’s a bit of love triangle with Clodagh and 2 of Johnny’s men, then some drama where nobody will listen to her or act rationallyand then she’s off to the Otherworld to bring her brother back. How have those stories inspired your writing and style? Human and Otherworld dwellers have existed there side by side, separated by a thin veil between worlds and sharing a wary trust.

As Fainne grows into a young woman, her heavy workload increases, leaving no time for anything but the practice of the craft. Heir to Sevenwaters 4 43 Oct 14, Marillier again manages to weave a story that makes you forget about everything going on around you while reading.

Plus, give me a break The segenwaters that the world of my books is the real world, though in a slightly fantastic version, makes it easier to keep things realistic. Be prepared for setbacks and knock-backs. She said that she was only suited to housework but then she outdid herself and succeeded on her quest I still plan to read all the books in this series.

I loved this story. How do you make the switch between the sevdnwaters Only one Y-chromosome made it? My biggest Marillier disappointed me with this one. The chieftains of Sevenwaters have long been custodians of a vast and mysterious forest? I’m so glad I finally got to it!! One of my English teachers once told my class that instead of telling her daughter the fairy tales of Sevenwwters legend, the classic Snow White and Sleeping Beauty that had the gallant princes arriving to save the day, she’d sevrnwaters change the ending so that the princess saved herself or, better yet, saved the prince too.

I still couldn’t put it heor.
